Why did you decide to join the Bancroft Capital team?
The mission is the driving force but also the opportunity to work in a smaller firm with a family attitude and values.
Tell us about your duties/day to day experience at Bancroft Capital.
As Managing Director of Fixed Income I’m responsible for bringing product to our customers via our salespeople.
What assets/skills do you bring to your customers?
My mathematics training, quick with numbers, analytical and logical thinking, and 43 years of experience combined with an ability to understand what the customer is trying to accomplish.
What is your greatest professional achievement to date?
I believe being at Bancroft because of our mission and the people here. Before Bancroft I would say making a difference in the lives of the people who worked with and for me by being fair and honest, something I only realized in hindsight.
Tell us about your ties to the veteran community.
My father served in the Navy aboard the Intrepid during WWII. I have had 3 nephews who serve as well – One in the Air Force and two in the Marines.
How did you get into the field of finance?
Basically, through my father. I originally thought of being an actuary, but was looking for a more interpersonal environment which led to an interview with Bache, Halsey, Stuart. I was lucky to find something that I not only could prosper in but also enjoy. Ten, eleven hour days (13-14 including my commute) weren’t a grind but something I enjoyed which is probably why I never minded the commute from PA to NY.
Can you explain the collaborative partnership between Bancroft and your alma mater, DeSales University?
The partnership with DeSales University provides our veteran candidates with an opportunity to enhance their educational foundation with access to DeSales’ programs including the MBA program. The idea was originally coordinated with Villanova University, and I thought that DeSales would also be a perfect partner. Their commitment to veterans and view of the world (St. Francis DeSales) is similar to Bancroft’s leadership.
“Do unto others as you would want done unto you.”
When you’re not working, what are your interests/hobbies?
Golf, traveling and my grandkids. It used to be playing, then coaching, and now it’s just watching baseball and hockey.
Other things you’d like to share?
My success can be directly attributed to my parents and my wife. A little bit to my children (motivation), but mostly to God. He has blessed me and has given me this great opportunity to give back and share.
