Leland Hasty

VTP Candidate

Leland Hasty is a candidate in the 2025 class of Bancroft’s Veteran Training Program. He formally left the Navy in 2024 as a Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class serving in the National Capital Region. During his time in service, MC1(SS) Hasty excelled in a variety of roles including submarine nuclear reactor operator, nuclear engineering technician, and public affairs specialist.

While assigned to the fast-attack submarine USS Cheyenne, Leland completed a six-month Western Pacific deployment, ultimately spending a combined 11 months underwater supporting submarine warfare operations for which his crew was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation, the unit equivalent of a silver star.

Following his submarine service, Leland was given the opportunity to transition into naval public affairs. While serving as the production manager for the Pacific Submarine Force Leland was highlighted fleet wide as the gold standard for transitioning public affairs specialists and awarded a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for his work supporting operation Pacific Dragon, a biennial exercise designed to improve tactical coordination and interoperability concerning regional air and missile defense, and Rim of the Pacific, the largest naval exercise in the world.
