Jeffery Barrett: Bancroft Capital’s First Veteran Training Program Graduate

Posted: April 30, 2020

On March 31, former U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Jeffery (Jeff) Barrett became the first candidate to formally graduate from Bancroft Capital’s Veteran Training Program. Jeff, who was part of the inaugural class of candidates in January 2019, has permanently joined Bancroft as part of the fixed income sales team.

“This opportunity has truly been life-changing,” said Jeff. “My family and I are humbled to have earned a full-time role with Bancroft, and I look forward to continuing my growth and development in the finance world.”

A 20-year Philadelphia public school teacher, Jeff was medically retired from the Army Reserves as a service-disabled veteran in December 2018. Over the course of his reservist duty, Jeff was mobilized (called to active service) 10 of the 20 years.

“I am intensely proud of Jeff’s ability to successfully navigate Bancroft’s Veteran Training Program, but moreover, I am humbled by his efforts to improve our program so that we may more effectively offer this life-changing experience to others,” shared Cal Quinn, Bancroft Founder and CEO.  “We congratulate Jeff and his family and wish him all the best in what will, no doubt, be a long and successful career as an institutional financial professional.”

Bancroft’s Veteran Training Program places military veterans alongside financial industry veterans to deliver value-added content to its clients. One key element of the Training Program is the educational opportunity afforded to the candidates. Bancroft has developed cooperative partnerships with both Villanova University and DeSales University to provide educational support and training to the candidates to enhance the comprehensive introduction to the industry.

“As the first graduate of Bancroft’s organically managed and privately funded Veteran Training Program, Jeff exhibited the dogged persistence to blaze a path coupled with the compassion necessary to ensure those following behind him will benefit from his trials,” said Cal. “Our first candidate demonstrated the intellectual capacity to absorb a whole new language while simultaneously educating civilians on his first language: military. Jeff Barrett has been this and so much more!”

Cal says all of Bancroft’s Veteran Training Program candidates embody the characteristics of dedication, perseverance, and commitment to task completion instilled through their years of military service and continue to apply those traits to developing their careers in institutional finance.

“Our focus is on shifting the national narrative from ‘jobs for veterans’ to a more restorative and lasting approach of ‘careers for veterans;’ and we believe Jeff is just the first of many veterans whose lives will be changed through our program.”
